Background:
The costs of maintenance for the network of motorways form an important part of the Province’s budget. Traffic flow has an impact on the economic development of the Province. That’s one of the reasons why the road surface of the motorways is kept in optimal condition and we set high standards on maintenance.
The challenge:
It might be possible to bring down the costs of maintenance (while intensity and safety remain the same at minimum) while optimizing the use and load of the road surface. This could be done by influencing driving behavior with the help of modern techniques and smart apps. The question is: how do we influence driving behavior in such a way that costs of maintenance drop, without disturbing traffic flow and intensity?
