Challenge: Preventing the build-up of waste around Amsterdam’s temporary canal wall supports

Noria is working on sustainable, affordable solutions to the plastic waste problem in inland waters; from the city to the sea. For this reason, Noria developed their 3R-method; Research, Remove and Reuse. In the Research step they map out the locations where plastic can be collected and use several techniques to monitor the plastic flux in the water ways. In the Remove step they remove the plastic debris from the water with their energy-efficient and fish-friendly systems. The removed plastic debris is Reused as key information input to develop smart preventive measurements and set up campaigns. In this way, Noria hopes to solve the plastic waste problem in water in 10 years and to ensure that there is no more work (also for Noria herself) in this business.

In the Startup in Residence program Noria develops a unique solution that prevents the build-up of waste around Amsterdam’s temporary canal wall supports.
