WASTED

March 2018.

WASTED started as a community initiative and has been running since 2015 in Stadsdeel Noord. The City of Amsterdam aims to separate waste streams of at least 65 % of its households by 2020. For Startup in Residence Amsterdam, WASTED is tackling the challenge of bulky waste, by encouraging people to recycle their bulky waste, hand it in at waste centers in Noord or bring it to a second-hand store. Through pilots, interviews and surveys they learned more about the reasons for residents to put bulky waste on the side of the road and waiting for garbage trucks to take it away, instead of recycling it or taking it to waste centers. They are also working on improving logistical challenges, for example by providing alternative modes of transportation to members of the WASTED community.
